After-school activities are more than just a way to keep kids occupied while parents are still at work: they can also be a great way to further engage kids in learning beyond the classroom.
At Providence Children’s Academy, children can participate in a variety of activities to help shape and develop language, motor skills, basic math, and science. Saint Patrick’s Day is a chance to put a special holiday spin on these activities.
Looking for ideas to teach children about the history behind this ancient holiday? Here are a few ideas to consider:
Have A Theme Day
What’s Saint Patrick’s Day without green? As the day approaches, encourage kids to wear that color as much as possible. You may want to keep a few themed items, such as headbands with shamrock antenna, beads, hats, etc. (available at party stores) in case some children forget. That way, everyone is included.
Learn Through Story Time
Preschool-aged children love being read to. What better way to teach young ones about Saint Patrick than reading age-appropriate books about his holiday? Check out the local library for themed stories. If you can, read with an Irish accent to really bring in the holiday spirit.
From YouTube to Spotify, it’s easy to find Irish music as background sounds during other learning activities or to learn about the history of Irish music. Children can also learn some basic Irish dance steps as a fun, educational after school activity.
Arts And Crafts Activities
Green is the theme for this day of arts and crafts: green markers, crayons, and colored pencils. Green construction paper, glitter glue, and sequins (maybe a little bit of gold as well).
Children can decorate their own shamrocks and color in their own printables (which can be printed for free) or other coloring books.
After School Activities For South Florida Preschoolers
Providence Children’s Academy is more than just a preschool. We are also an after-school program that focuses on overall health and wellness for children in a family-oriented environment.
All of our activities and programs are centered on learning and developing the necessary skills that young kids need as they advance further into their schooling years. Children will thrive and grow through structured play, a safe playground to explore, healthy snacks, and nurturing of talents and friendships.
