Is Your Child Eligible for VPK?
VPK is available to children living in Florida who will be 4 years old on or before September 1. All Florida families are eligible for VPK, regardless of income. If your child’s birthday falls after February 2 but before September 1, you have the option to postpone their VPK enrollment by 1 year, when they are 5 years old.
VPK is also available for 4-year-olds with special needs through the VPK Specialized Instructional Services (SIS) Program. Parents interested in the VPK SIS program can learn more by contacting their local early learning coalition.
How to Enroll Your Child in Florida’s VPK Program
Enrolling your child in a free VPK program is easy. Begin by registering online with Florida’s Early Learning Family Portal. Or, you can register in person at your local early learning coalition.
Whether registering online or in person, you will need:
- Your child’s social security number.
- Proof of your child’s age in the form of a birth certificate, immunization records, or passport.
- Proof of Florida residency. Parents can provide their driver’s license, mortgage statement, lease agreement, or other proof of residency. The address must be the address where the child resides.
Once eligibility is confirmed, parents will receive a Certificate of Eligibility. You can then take your certificate to any qualified VPK provider.

Florida’s VPK program ensures a low student-to-teacher ratio with no more than 11 (or 12 in summer programs) students per instructor.
