Fun Activities To Do With Your Kids At Home

kids fun activities

School is out for the summer; now what? There are plenty of fun kids’ activities to keep them entertained at home. The best activities not only keep kids engaged and interested but encourage them to learn new things or develop a new skill. Here are some kid’s fun activities to do with your children at home during the summer.

Card Games

There are plenty of card games you can play with your children: Go Fish, Crazy Eights, and Crazy Bones are some of the easiest ones to learn. Playing cards also teaches them how to count and adds an element of strategy to their play.

Outdoor Activities

Playing outdoors is a great way to burn off energy – if you have a yard, go ahead and go outside – or if you have a pool, an afternoon swim is a great way to keep kids busy and have fun.

Cooking Together As A Family

Cooking with your children can be a great way to keep them busy and engaged. Many kids love to help make cookies, cupcakes, or brownies. Other ideas include making pizza, salad, tacos, pancakes, and more. Not only does cooking with your children help them learn about nutrition and healthy eating habits, it’s also a great way to spend time together. You can make it a family affair and invite grandparents and other relatives to get involved.

Math Games

Even though the summer months are a time to relax and have some fun, this doesn’t mean your child should forget everything they learned in school. Math games are an excellent way to review important concepts and prepare them for going back to school in the fall. Kids can practice addition and subtraction with flashcards, counting games, and more.

Go On A Scavenger Hunt

If you have a group of kids, nothing is better than a good old-fashioned scavenger hunt. Not only is it a fun way to exercise their brains and get them exploring the outdoors, it’s also a great way to get some exercise. Depending on the age, you can make the hunt easy with just a list of items to find or make it more difficult with riddles, puzzles, and clues.

Arts And Crafts

Kids love to get creative, so why not set up some crafts they can make? You can do simple crafts like making paper flowers or construction paper art, or you can do more complex crafts like making a wooden frame or painting a canvas. You can also set up a family project by painting a mural, making a craft with recycled items, or using clay. Sidewalk chalk is another fun activity to inspire creativity and get kids outdoors.

DIY Terrarium

There are many different types of plants that can be grown in a terrarium, but you’ll want to use ones that grow slowly and can tolerate the humidity. The size and location of your terrarium will determine how you arrange your plants. If you want your terrarium to look like a miniature landscape, place taller plants at the back and shorter ones in the front. You can also add rocks, pebbles, or beads to the bottom of your terrarium.
